Active COVID-19 cases in Churchill County sit at 159 this week, with 11 hospitalizations. Three of those are in the Intensive Care Unit with two on ventilators.

Total deaths in the community since the beginning of COVID have risen from 49 at the end of August to 53 this week.
With a 15.56-percent test positivity rate, Churchill County joins the rest of the counties in Nevada that are experiencing substantial or high transmission levels. The overall state positivity rate is 12.3 percent. According to the State of Nevada County Masking Mandate Guide, all Nevada counties have hit the “high” CDC risk level which triggers the mask requirement for everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals in public indoor settings.
For a county to change masking requirement status, it must remain in a transmission classification for two consecutive weeks. If a county’s status changes, it will have until Friday of the same week to implement that change.
The Churchill County School District implemented mandated face coverings for all students and adults on Wednesday after the State of Nevada Department of Education declared an official outbreak at the high school and middle school.
There has been a total of 2,678 positive cases in Churchill County since last March. Residents completing vaccination are at 9,355, providing for a 42.75% vaccination rate of residents 12 years old. According to a report given at the school board meeting Wednesday, 54 percent of the school district staff is vaccinated.
