Update! Head Coach Brandon Bird notified The Fallon Post that the Oasis Softball Team hit 100 wins on April 16. Congratulations to both coaches and all the great softball players at Oasis High School!

Over ten years ago, when Brandon Bird’s daughter wanted to play softball, the game changed their lives. While Bird was not a softball expert, the following year, he volunteered to be an assistant coach for Rachel Payne’s “Blue Team,” and Payne knew what she was about.

The duo coached their daughters every year until the girls graduated high school, piling up lots of wins and the 2016 All World 12U State Championship.

High school complete for their daughters, the coaching duo thought their days on the field were over until Rochelle Tisdale, Oasis Academy’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, asked if they would be interested in starting a softball program at Oasis High School. They agreed and have taken their new team on an incredible journey.

The students and coaches played their first year, in 2017, as junior varsity and went 8-4 for the season, often, if not always, against varsity teams. They all knew they had something good going, and they kept it up over the years.

Rachel Payne retired as Head Coach in 2022, and Brandon Bird and the Bighorns have been keeping the momentum going. As of April 14, their stats are at 99-22, and they are set to surpass 100 winning games by the end of this season.

Varsity Record: 99 - 22

2018: 16-1 (Independent Status)
2019: 21-2 (Independent Status)
2020: 4-0 (Covid)
2021: 15-0 (State Champions)
2022: 16-4 (qualified for playoffs)
2023: 14-10 (went to state)
2024: 13-5 (as of 4-14-24)

Congratulations to both coaches and all the great softball players at Oasis High School!

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
