New Frontier Celebrates 50 Years of Serving the Community

Author: Courtesy New Frontier

New Frontier has been serving clients throughout Northern Nevada since 1971 and is extremely proud to be celebrating our 50th anniversary this year.  We have had only a few esteemed community members at the helm since that time.

The late Jim Wood led the efforts for many of the 37 years he was a part of the Board.  Ron Marrujo assumed the position of Board Chair upon Jim’s retirement in 2011 and along with the other members of the Board, Vaughna Bendickson, Joe Lane, Jacob Sommer, Carl Erquiaga, Dr. Tedd McDonald, and Motulalo Otuafi, has taken us into a new era of recovery.

Lana Robards has been the Executive Director since 2007 and has been the driving force behind New Frontier’s success.  Her vision has provided this community with services that our clients would not have seen except through her efforts.

Since the beginning, the face of the New Frontier has changed dramatically.  We have gone from a small organization providing limited services to clients with alcohol addiction to a complete Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) providing a variety of services including mobile crisis units, mental health, and a variety of youth services.  We were the first in the state to be awarded this standing and it has truly been a rewarding venture.  We have a variety of programs to meet everyone’s needs, including a 24 hr. emergency food pantry, the commodities program in Churchill County, and our PCAP (Parent-Child Assistance Program).

The past year has been extremely challenging due to COVID, but we are proud to say, our team really stepped up to the challenge and we have continued to provide services to our most vulnerable populations.  Looking forward, we see growth in our future as we continue to provide the much-needed support to all our clients and to our community in general. Whatever referral brings our clients to our door, they are greeted by a compendium of programs and services to help meet their needs.

We have been very excited to be able to provide these programs and many others through our commitment to our community.

We encourage you to become a part of our efforts to make a difference. We will be having an open house on Friday, July 30th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.  We invite you all to come and see what we do.  We will provide tours, food, and fun.  There will be raffle prizes (including a 50 “Smart TV) for those in attendance.  Please call us at 775-423-1412 if you have any questions.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
