Obituary - Betty Lou (Chaney) Anderson

Nov. 21, 1938 – Sept. 6, 2025

Longtime Fallon resident Betty Anderson passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 6, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 21, 1938, in Springfield, Ohio, to Theodore and Grace Chaney, the youngest of six children and the only daughter.

True to her adventurous spirit, Betty moved to New York City with a friend shortly after graduating from Springfield High School in 1956. After a short time in New York, she set her sights on California, where she met and married the love of her life, George “Curt” Anderson. They spent nearly a decade in Big Bear Lake, raising their two children before moving to Fallon in 1974, where they planted deep roots and enjoyed life in the country.

For 26 years, Betty contributed to the community in a variety of jobs: escrow officer, real estate agent, owner and operator of Skate N’ Place roller skating rink, and bookkeeper/accountant for Motor Supply Company.

Upon retiring in 2000, Betty’s sense of adventure blossomed as she and Curt “sold the farm” and took to the open road. For 16 years, they embraced life as full-time RVers, traveling the West Coast as camp host volunteers with Oregon State Parks. Their journeys later carried them eastward, from Florida up through the Atlantic seaboard to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. Later, they treasured many summers serving as camp hosts at Donner Memorial State Park.

During her 86 years, Betty lived life to the fullest. She visited all 50 states, as well as Mexico, Canada, Europe, and Thailand. A longtime Disney fan, she and Curt made countless trips to Disneyland and Disney World, where she loved collecting and trading Disney pins. She also enjoyed snow and water skiing, camping, and boating—even as recent as this summer. Above all, her greatest joy was time spent with family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Curt; her son, Curtis Anderson; her daughter, Lisa (Brett) Post; her granddaughters, Michaela (Jacob) Flick and Jenny Anderson (Alex Peden); and five great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at the William N. Pennington Life Center, 952 S. Maine St., Fallon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty Anderson’s memory to the Churchill County William N. Pennington Life Center at the address above.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
