The 20th Annual Home and Garden Show at the Fallon Convention Center, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Fallon is back – and in a BIG way. The show opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday with a multitude of event booths both inside and out. Stroll through a wide array of local items from Lattin and Workman Farms, J&K Llamas, The Village, Anytime Gifts by Gail, Berney Realty, Desert Owl Crafts, Sierra Enterprises, WNC, Damsel in Defense, Reno-vation Inc, Churchill County Museum, Dream-One of a Kind, Needle in a Haystack, Quality First Home Improvement, Face Painting by Ivy, Susan's Homemade Aprons-Bags-Gifts, Argenta Phantom Screens, The U Fashion, TOPS, VFW #1012 Auxiliary, and the Churchill Coalition – just to name a few.
All weekend, food and beverage vendors will be available to feed the munchies and quench the thirst. The Churchill County 4-H Poultry Club will have their fancy flock on display, and the Cub Scouts will be selling snacks too. SI of Fallon is raffling two prizes this year, a new wheelbarrow donated by Louie's ACE Hardware filled with anything needed for the garden, and an outdoor redwood table and chair set made by a local woodworker. Tickets for these items will be available all weekend, and both will be awarded toward the end of the day on Sunday.
The Hearts of Gold Quilters are raffling off their 18th Annual Community Quilt, made this year by Penny Dujardin. The quilt measures 99-inches by 99-inches (queen/king size), and tickets will be available for sale throughout the show and until August 29, when the drawing is done at the Cantaloupe Festival and Country Fair.
Marcia Vinson, Home, and Garden Show Chairwoman has led this event since its inception, and just like her own garden, she has tended to it, making it flourish more and more every year, for 20 years now. Vinson told us, “The Soroptimist 20th Annual Home and Garden show is a chance for the community to talk with the local Nurseries, purchase hand-crafted items and plants, and view home improvement ideas all in one spot. This is also a fundraiser so Soroptimist International can provide scholarships and help for needy projects in the community.”
Soroptimist International an international volunteer service organization for business and professional women working to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and around the world. SI of Fallon, the local organization, sponsors the Annual Home and Garden Show as well as other events to raise funds for their scholarship programs for women and girls trying to better themselves, especially when they are striving in the face of adversity. Education and training further help them to achieve the economic opportunities they may need to succeed.
The closing time for the Home and Garden Show on Saturday is 4:00 p.m.; on Sunday, it will close at 3:00 p.m.
