Services Scheduled - Anthony (Tony) Charles Martin
Originally published October 4, 2019. Updated with information on the memorial service - Anthony (Tony) Charles Martin, age 72, entered into eternal rest on September 19, 2019 after a brief illness. Tony was born in Ohio on October 31, 1946. His parents were Dorothea Cress and William J. Martin. Tony is preceded in death by his father, William J. Martin. He is survived by his mother, Dorothea Ratzlaff; Step-mother, Barbara Martin; sister, Patti (Mike) Anderson and children Chelsea, Shelby, Michael, and Jeanne: Tony’s three children, Brynn Lovato and children Drake and Myles; Brad (Laura) Martin and children Ashley (Justin) Nelson, Jeremy, Kyle, and Ayden; and Kari (Jesse) Gonzalez and daughter Amber Mello; Ryan (Holly) McPherson and children Wyatt and Maggie; Jamie (Jeff) Cooley and children John and Sierra; Brady Drayton and children Serenity and Dresden; Kyle (Katie) Drayton and children Parker and Emma.  He is also survived by his former wife and companion Cheryl Martin. Tony also had two great-granddaughters; Layla James and Savanna Blu (Ashley and Justin Nelson). Tony lived most of his life in Fallon until moving to Sacramento where he attended California State University. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and worked for Lucky Supermarkets and California State Automobile Association (AAA) selling insurance. He returned to Fallon with his children where the family purchased a Sears Catalog franchise. The entire family worked in the family business. Tony was a beloved teacher at Churchill County School District where he taught for 20-years. Tony was active with his daughter, Kari, in local 4H as well as junior and high school rodeo events. He loved animals and owned many horses and cattle dogs. Tony was firm but fair, had a wonderful sense of humor, and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone – most especially animals. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. A Celebration of Life will come at a later time to accommodate out of town family. The memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11 o'clock a.m. at The Gardens Funeral Home.     Sign up to receive updates and the Friday File email notices. Who and what they REALLY were. Because they were devotional and IMPORTANT to the humans they connected with. The content of their life bled so that others could feel their own life’s importance. Teachers of justifiable life and art. That all can absorb and use as the best fertilizer for THEIR lives. Giving the silent secrets and the loud guidance. The Melon Man was a perfect specimen for how to devote. His passing meant a life book of feeling/knowing what gives other humans their paths to Love and Knowledge. Some humans are meant to show others their paths. And in that they secrete ways to profitably exist.Comment publication date: 3/18/26, 4:50 PMComment source: In memorium -- The Melon ManComment author: Pam BitschenauerComment text: Ken, thank you for your kind words about Scott our "Mellon Man". My husband and I used to visit with Scott quite often when we lived in Fallon and then whenever we had the chance to as we passed through town. He was truly a good person and will be sorely missed.Comment publication date: 3/18/26, 3:15 PMComment source: In memorium -- The Melon Man
