Business Feature -- Horsepower Fitness

Business Feature -- Horsepower Fitness
by Rachel Dahl -- Andrea Carroll has done it again – created a brand-new business venture that is a booming success right out of the gate. Putting her ten years in the fitness industry back to use, Andrea has created Horsepower Fitness, a group workout for women that can be done anywhere. “We bring minimum equipment and get maximum results,” she said, “you don’t need a fancy gym membership, you can use the things around you no matter where you are. We cater to anyone who just wants to come move their body or to someone who is training to run a marathon.” Horsepower workouts are different every day and could include yoga, interval training, boot camp style workouts and can be modified to any level. Not only are the workouts different every day, but class is held in a different location every day. “Because we’re using a revamped 1965 horse trailer to haul all the equipment, we can fit anywhere,” said Andrea.  The weekly schedule is posted on the Horsepower Fitness Facebook page with classes being held at Oats Park, the Convention Center parking lot, the Fallon Family Wellness Center behind the old Raley’s, and yoga is held inside the Williams House. Classes are held Monday through Friday at 5:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m., and 8:30 a.m. “We’re just a group of women who don’t want to go to the gym, we just want somewhere to work out,” said Andrea. With three of the local gyms closing this summer, she saw a need in the community for a new workout option. “With all the overhead that comes with a gym, I got this idea from the Rusty Canteen,” she said. According to Andrea, and her experience in the fitness industry, people need to be outside. They want to show up and be shown what to do and for how long and they need social time. “We’re a social club and we happen to work out together,” she laughed. She also has found that the women who take her classes are a group that enjoys giving back to the community and to be involved. “For the women who come and work out, we’re teaching them, inviting them, to come be a part of a community and the workout is a side effect.” Andrea is also quick to thank the four other coaches who are working with her and teaching the Horsepower classes – she has worked with them before and they are all certified group fitness instructors: Meg Antoniono, Machele Howard, Carly Martin, and Alyssa Garcia. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
