Allison’s Book Report: “The Rule Book” by Sarah Adams

Allison’s Book Report: “The Rule Book” by Sarah Adams

Nothing says “perfect summertime read" like a wild and fast paced rom-com complete with a fierce rivalry-turned-second-chance-romance, an accidental Vegas wedding, and of course that obligatory rom-com happily ever after! This week I have a book that will fit that bill perfectly for you to toss into your pool bag or to read in a hammock with an icy cold glass of rosé in hand!

Sarah Adams' “The Rule Book” is serving up some serious second-chance romance, and it's a total blast! If you loved her previous novel, “The Cheat Sheet,” you're in for another treat with “The Rule Book.” Didn't read “The Cheat Sheet?”  Don't worry, because I wouldn't call this a sequel - it's more of a companion and you will be fine to start with either one. Get ready for a wild ride including college exes, an NFL star, and a whole lot of hilarious, chemistry-packed chaos.

Nora Mackenzie is finally a full-time sports agent, living the dream! Except her very first client? None other than Derek Pender, the famous NFL tight end who just so happens to be her incredibly hot ex-boyfriend. And let's be real, their breakup was not pretty. Nora knows she messed up, and now, it's coming back to bite her big time. Derek is holding onto a grudge like it's his Super Bowl trophy and he's not letting go. Derek's got a master plan for some "friendly" revenge … Nora wants to be his agent? Fine, he'll let her. But he's going to make her life an absolute nightmare. His goal is simple: make her quit. But here's the thing about Nora – she's a force of nature and Derek knows, deep down, that the woman he once loved doesn't give up easily. Nora isn't about to roll over. Instead of letting him win, she starts cooking up her own schemes, turning their professional relationship into a hilariously tense standoff. The sparks are flying, not just from anger, but from that undeniable attraction that's still simmering beneath the surface. A crazy night in Las Vegas leads to Nora and Derek waking up together … married . Their carefully constructed "rule book" is officially thrown out the window. Now, they're not only trying to navigate their careers with their exes – but also a spontaneous, surprise marriage. Can this unexpected twist save their professional lives? Or, even better, will it finally ignite the romance of a lifetime, turning their rivalry into true love?

I hope you love “The Rule Book” and don't forget to pop over to my Instagram @allison.the.reader for more book recommendations and bookish fun!

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
