The Sherman Street Intersection Targeted for Improvement
By Rachel Dahl -- The Nevada Department of Transportation and Churchill County recently prioritized the 2019-20 workplan, moving the Sherman/East Williams street intersection to the top of their list. “Clear back when I was superintendent,” said Commissioner Bus Scharmann, “that was an intersection we were very worried about and had considered changing the entrance to E.C. Best because it was so close to the intersection.” Along with improvements to the intersection at the Sheckler and South Taylor intersection, commissioners asked NDOT to focus efforts on both projects. “Sherman is a tough intersection and if the Tribe is going to continue to build in that area it is just going to get worse,” he said. Keith Boone, principal of E.C. Best elementary school, located on the southeast corner of the intersection, echoed Scharmann’s concerns. “It seems every year since I’ve worked here for the past 12 years there has been a major accident there,” he said. “This is awesome news considering Fox Peak, the hospital, and the school, it’s exciting, especially for the parents and students.” NDOT will work toward a plan that extend the east bound double-lane, install sidewalks, and improve the approach to Sherman Street. These workplan priorities replace the Sheckler/Highway 50 and the Sheckler/Highway 95 intersections that were the top focus of the 2019-19 workplan. The project to install a traffic signal at the Sheckler/Highway 50 intersection is underway and will be completed next spring, and the studies on the Sheckler/Highway 95 intersection have been completed, and work on that intersection will continue this year.       Sign up to receive updates and the Friday File email notices. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
