Senior Spotlight: Leah Bake

As graduation approaches, Oasis Academy senior Leah Bake is preparing to turn the page and begin an exciting new chapter. This month, Bake will receive both her high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree from Western Nevada College.

“I think it’s amazing and kind of funny that I’ll graduate from college before I get my high school diploma,” Bake said. “I’m excited about graduating, and then I’ll move into my apartment in Reno in August. I can’t wait.”

She plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno, to major in Film and Media Production with a minor in political science. “My goal is to either create documentaries or build a platform to share nonpartisan political facts to combat the massive amounts of misinformation in today’s media,” she said. “I’m so excited to attend UNR and take advantage of all the hands-on opportunities.”

Bake has attended Oasis since second grade and said some of her favorite memories came from creative class projects, including a third-grade pumpkin catapult and hands-on social studies assignments. Ceramics also stood out as a favorite class.

“I absolutely loved ceramics with Mrs. Jeanne Evatt because I could be creative in my own way while learning new techniques,” she said. “It was so calming to end the school day by making something unique.”

Bake participated in three musical theatre productions: “Freaky Friday,” “Fiddler on the Roof” as Tzeitel, and “The Wizard of Oz” as the Wicked Witch of the West. “I almost majored in Musical Theatre before switching to Film and Media Production,” she said.

She credited counselor Andy Lenon for being a consistent source of support. “I’d like to thank Mr. Andy Lenon for being such an amazing counselor. He’s been at Oasis since I was in fourth grade and has always been a huge help.”

For future students, Bake advised, “Have good time management—don’t procrastinate! It makes school much harder than it needs to be.”

She also encouraged students to enjoy the experience: “Go to sports games, hang out with friends, attend dances, join student council activities, and participate in Spirit Weeks. It really makes high school a much more enjoyable experience.”

Senior Spotlight: Camille Frossard

Senior Camille Frossard said she’ll remember the people and the experiences most from her time at Oasis.

“My favorite memory has to be meeting everyone and all the experiences I’ve had,” Frossard said.

Frossard enrolled at Oasis her freshman year after being homeschooled. “My time here has been very educational—learning emotional intelligence and increasing my academic knowledge.”

She plans to study geological engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Frossard thanked counselor Andy Lenon and Mrs. Julie Stockard for their guidance. “I would like to thank Mr. Lenon for being awesome, and Mrs. Stockard for being so inspiring,” she said.

Her favorite class was robotics. “Every moment was fun. The class had good energy, from learning how to build to just being able to spend time with friends.”

Frossard shared advice for future students: “Ignore what people have to say about you—it’s the biggest thing that will hold you back. Be true to yourself, and others.”

Oasis Girls Lacrosse Team Secures Playoff Berth

The Oasis Academy girls’ lacrosse team has qualified for the playoffs following a standout season capped by a 10–6 win over McQueen High School on April 23.

Throughout the season, the Lady Bighorns have gone head-to-head with 4A and 5A schools, consistently displaying teamwork and resilience. “I couldn't be more proud of these girls,” said Coach Karla Craig. “We have one of the smaller rosters in the league, but we didn’t let that stand in our way. These girls have played with grit and tenacity. Making it to the playoffs is a well-deserved accomplishment.”

The Lady Bighorns will face top-seeded Truckee on Monday, May 12, at 4:30 p.m. in North Tahoe.

It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking. I am Kelly’s sister, Charlene B Johnson and his daughter is Trisha Benjamin. The Fallon Tribal Police acted unconscionably by not notifying the family first. This is devastating for us especially after speaking a little bit with the officer handling the report and The Chief Juarez. Who refused to give me any further details or to at least let me know the FBI was notified and that they were investigating if my brothers death was foul play or not. My understanding is the FBI is called when a body is found. Tribal Chairwoman please do the family a solid and make sure the finding of my brother was due to suspicious circumstances.Comment publication date: 3/24/26, 1:55 PMComment source: Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Reports Death Under InvestigationComment author: Nicole GalbraithComment text: Farren - I just saw that you aren’t here with us. I am completely in shock! I met you and hung out with you so many years ago with Jer, and Eden. I honestly can’t believe you are gone…..you were a wonderful human being, with a HUGE heart and soul. Hearing this makes my heart break! You are forever in our hearts, and I can say I feel blessed that I was able to know you!
