Be an Afterschool HERO

Be an Afterschool HERO
There is a hero for everyone and this year the High Desert Grange and Epworth United Methodist Church will be the hero for 90 community school children. The Grange and Epworth have received a grant from the Churchill Community Coalition to create an afterschool program that will serve students in kindergarten through sixth grade.  Organizers call the program the HERO Club – for Homework, Enrichment, Recreation, Opportunity, and will offer support with homework, as well as enrichment activities including cooking, crafts, music experiences. Focused on building connection to the community, the goals of the partnership are to provide students with opportunities to participate in the many activities available in the area. Many of the enrichment activities will be led by volunteers who will be giving their time to share with the students some of their skills and knowledge. Anyone interested in helping the youth of our community advance their knowledge in invited to contact Steve Russell at 775-423-4714 for more information. HERO will be open to all students from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Fridays. The program will also be open for “early out days” when the schools release early for the day. Students, with parental permission, will be able to walk from their school to the program site at the Wolf Center, 457 Esmeralda Street, or they will be able to ride a bus to Churchill County Middle School, where they will be met by a staff member from the program who will walk students to the program. Each month new themes will be presented to students that will be embedded into different experiences with cooking, dance, music, and art. The students will also be given an opportunity to learn basic sign language skills. Because of the Coalition grant, the yearly cost for this opportunity is $45 per school year, per child, and there are a limited number of scholarships available. The program will have space for 90-100 students.       Never miss a meeting or community event – keep an eye on the community calendar at https://www.thefallonpost.org/events/ If you like what we’re doing, please support our effort to provide local, independent news and contribute to The Fallon Post, your online news source for all things Fallon.

His mother, father, Karen and Trent were neighbors of ours in Tonopah, Nevada. We moved to Fallon first and then the Kroll's later moved there also. Mother and Wanda were good friends. My brother Michael and Trent were playmates in Tonopah. Mother and my three little children visited the family at their ranch in Fallon. My condolences to Frank's family. May you be comforted to know that I care and I pray you will be comforted by your memories of Frank. Sincerely,Comment publication date: 4/30/26, 11:51 AMComment source: Frank Robert Kroll
