Captain’s Log – Peter Falk

Captain’s Log – Peter Falk

I'm down in Vegas this week visiting my mom and sister after Granny had some procedures to keep her ticker going. We used to make fun of our mom the older she got for making "old lady noises" while she went through her day.

Now we're laughing at ourselves for doing the same thing.

My sister and I have spent the week providing personal sound effects for our every move and laughing at each other as we realize that it's come to this.

Recently, at the office, there were three of us working away, each of us happily carrying on our very own conversations with ourselves at the same time. WE used to enjoy companionable silence and now we laugh at our collective, aging groans. Denice says she sometimes even has full-on conversations with the dog.

What is it about old age that we carry on a running commentary as we go about our day? It's like our very own play-by-play. I've become the color commentary for my own life. Along with the heavy sighs and random grunting as I rise from the floor or lower into a chair.

There was a time when I wouldn't travel with old gals who did this, and now I often catch myself saying, "I sound like the grandpa in The Princess Bride." Grunting and creaking, patting and checking my pockets as I assess (try to remember) what I was going to do next.

So while we entertain ourselves finding the humor in our advancing age, we'll still be right here…

…Keeping you Posted.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
