Guy William Nelson was born on May 18, 1963, to Lloyd LeRoy Nelson and Dee Ann Morgan at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, Nevada. Guy attended schools in Fallon and Sparks before graduating from Fernley High School in 1981. Guy was a vibrant spirit whose enthusiasm for life was contagious.
Guy worked at Nelson Electric Company out of high school and then at Harvey’s in Lake Tahoe for five years, where he worked in the purchasing department. From there, his employment took him to many other cities, including Orlando, Florida; Long Beach, California; Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Seattle, Washington; Palm Springs, California, which he lovingly called his “Happy Place,” and finally, Dallas, Texas. He loved hosting friends and family in these beautiful locations, creating warm memories that will be cherished forever.
Guy founded his own procurement business, specializing in services for large hotels, where he built lasting relationships with his clients. He believed in taking care of the people behind the projects, often saying, “I don’t worry about the project; I want to take care of the client behind the project.” This dedication earned him both respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike.
Following the death of his stepfather, Richard “Dick” Rowe, in 2010, Guy became the head of our family. It was a role he carried with love and devotion. More than anything else in this world, Guy loved his family.
Guy passed away at home on July 25, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Guy is survived by his husband of more than 19 years, Christopher Schroeder; his mother, DeeAnn Rowe; his sister, Alice (Craig) Mull of Sparks, Nevada, their five children and spouses and two grandchildren; his brother, John (Darby) Rowe of Fallon, Nevada, and their three children and spouse; and his brother Christopher (Sarah) Rowe of Sparks, Nevada, and their four children. He is also survived by many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends he made throughout his life.
Guy was cherished by his husband and deeply loved by his family, especially his nieces and nephews, who adored his playful spirit. His home was always a welcoming haven, tastefully decorated to model home perfection. He had a gift not only for decorating, but also for making every visitor feel special, often greeting them with a smile and signature phrases. His humor was infectious, delighting in funny sayings that brought laughter to those around him.
Guy lived in many places, knew many people, and experienced much in his 63 years. But through all of his adventures, family remained at the center of his life. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. Anyone fortunate enough to have known him will always remember what a truly great GUY he was.
