Jefferson Lee Bice

Jefferson Lee Bice

September 4, 1960 - January 14, 2025.

Jefferson Lee Bice was born September 4, 1960, in Prescott, Arizona, to James Layton Bice and Barbara Lee Heydorn Bice.  His family later moved to Cottonwood, Arizona, where he grew up.  After high school graduation, Jeff enlisted in the US Navy, training as a Navy Seal and an Intelligence Specialist, specializing in maps and satellite imagery.

On June 5, 1980, he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Marie Layton, in the Ogden LDS Temple.  They were blessed with three daughters and a son.

While in the Navy, Jeff traveled all around the world. His family joked that the list of places he had NOT been was shorter than the places he had been. He served in the Navy for 20 years.

In 1996, he was transferred to Fallon, Nevada. He fell in love with Fallon, and he and Jan decided to make it their permanent home. Soon after their arrival, he began attending online classes at the American Intercontinental University. He later received a Bachelor of Business Administration Management Cum Laude.

After retiring from the Navy in 1999, Jeff began working for Lockheed Martin, building flight simulators for the military. He later worked in security for them.  He worked for Lockheed Martin for 23 years and fully retired in July 2024.

Jeff loved to fish and spent many hours fishing the lakes and rivers of Northern Nevada. He loved hiking, arrowhead hunting, and a good campfire. Through the years, he began Chucker hunting (a bird) with his favorite Springer Spaniel, Katie. He also enjoyed spending time with and bragging about his six grandchildren, who he loved very much. He was a great grandpa!

Jeff died on January 14, 2025, after a long battle with liver disease.

Jeff was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Halycon Marie Bice, and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Bice; his daughters Carolyne Bolt (Josh) and Jessica Purkhiser (Brad), son Michael Bice (Aubrey); and his six grandchildren, Christoper Kiker, Rebekah Purkhiser, Morgan Purkhiser, Syrena Bice, Korben Bice, and Seth Bolt.

He will be missed.

Who and what they REALLY were. Because they were devotional and IMPORTANT to the humans they connected with. The content of their life bled so that others could feel their own life’s importance. Teachers of justifiable life and art. That all can absorb and use as the best fertilizer for THEIR lives. Giving the silent secrets and the loud guidance. The Melon Man was a perfect specimen for how to devote. His passing meant a life book of feeling/knowing what gives other humans their paths to Love and Knowledge. Some humans are meant to show others their paths. And in that they secrete ways to profitably exist.Comment publication date: 3/18/26, 4:50 PMComment source: In memorium -- The Melon ManComment author: Pam BitschenauerComment text: Ken, thank you for your kind words about Scott our "Mellon Man". My husband and I used to visit with Scott quite often when we lived in Fallon and then whenever we had the chance to as we passed through town. He was truly a good person and will be sorely missed.Comment publication date: 3/18/26, 3:15 PMComment source: In memorium -- The Melon Man
