Oasis Bighorn Bulletin

Oasis Bighorn Bulletin
Bighorns are all about spreading Christmas cheer with their caroling, traveling around town on an Action Crane & Trucking truck – FFA students carol one night and the eighth grade class picks up the duty another night.

2nd Annual La Posada Celebration

The 2nd Annual Latino Family Night La Posada Celebration was held on Wednesday, December 18 at the Oasis Cafeteria. The night was an opportunity for families to celebrate the holiday with fun, food, family, and friends.

Oasis Academy ELL teachers Jose Ramirez and Page Hiskett headed the event with approximately sixty people attending.

The Posada celebration is a culturally rich event that honors the traditional Mexican custom of Las Posadas, which commemorates Mary and Joseph's search for shelter before the birth of Jesus. Typically held over nine nights from December 16 to 24.

The Oasis celebration featured a feast of traditional Mexican dishes like tamales and hot chocolate, along with fun activities such as breaking piñatas filled with treats, games, ornament making, and raffles. This gathering not only fosters a sense of unity but also allows participants to engage deeply with their cultural heritage, making it a cherished annual highlight of the school year.

“This has turned into a really fun multicultural event for all of our families,” said Rochelle Tisdale, High School Principal. “It helps us further understand each other and our cultures much better. Huge thank you to Page and Jose for all their hard work starting this annual tradition and coordinating it each year.”

Middle School FFA Fills Karma Boxes for Chamber

Middle school FFA students from Oasis Academy were recently engaged in a meaningful community service initiative by filling Karma Boxes for the Churchill County Chamber of Commerce. This project is part of the community’s broader Karma Box Project, which aims to provide essential non-perishable food items and hygiene products to those in need within the community.

The involvement of FFA students in filling Karma Boxes highlights the importance of youth engagement in local charitable efforts. By participating in this project, students learn valuable lessons about empathy, responsibility, and the impact of giving back to their community.

Students walked donations to the Chamber Office on Thursday, December 19.

The Karma Box Project itself plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity and providing essential resources to vulnerable populations. To learn more about how you can help with Fallon’s Karma Box project contact Lucy Carnahan at [email protected].

Students Carol Through Town

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. Tradition was kept alive through song with two nights of Oasis students caroling throughout Fallon.

FFA students started the week off on Monday, December 9 with caroling and the eighth-grade class continued it on Tuesday the 10th.

Students were driven on an Action Crane and Trucking truck and flatbed with Oasis Alumnus Eddie Morrow driving.

After both groups were done caroling, they returned to school for fun holiday activities, including ht chocolate, games, and gift exchanges.

It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking. I am Kelly’s sister, Charlene B Johnson and his daughter is Trisha Benjamin. The Fallon Tribal Police acted unconscionably by not notifying the family first. This is devastating for us especially after speaking a little bit with the officer handling the report and The Chief Juarez. Who refused to give me any further details or to at least let me know the FBI was notified and that they were investigating if my brothers death was foul play or not. My understanding is the FBI is called when a body is found. Tribal Chairwoman please do the family a solid and make sure the finding of my brother was due to suspicious circumstances.Comment publication date: 3/24/26, 1:55 PMComment source: Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Reports Death Under InvestigationComment author: Nicole GalbraithComment text: Farren - I just saw that you aren’t here with us. I am completely in shock! I met you and hung out with you so many years ago with Jer, and Eden. I honestly can’t believe you are gone…..you were a wonderful human being, with a HUGE heart and soul. Hearing this makes my heart break! You are forever in our hearts, and I can say I feel blessed that I was able to know you!
