Local Democrats meet with Julián Castro campaign staff

Local Democrats meet with Julián Castro campaign staff
Submitted courtesy Churchill Democrats -- On July 18, members of the Julián Castro Nevada presidential campaign staff stopped in Fallon as part of a Northern Nevada Rural tour. They met with several Churchill County Democrats to discuss issues of importance to rural Nevadans. This is part of Secretary Castro’s commitment to working for all Americans – “People First.” As an example, Secretary Castro was the first Democratic presidential candidate to visit Flint, Michigan, to learn first-hand about their water crisis. He is just as concerned with issues facing us here. The staff included Kristian Carranza, State Director; Michael Cullen, Nevada Political Director; and Megan Joy Macias, Northern Nevada Intern. They listened and took notes as the attendees expressed their concerns and what they would like to see Secretary Castro address. These concerns included health care, including the shortage of doctors in rural areas; the housing shortage and rising costs; social justice; immigration reform; the environment and use of public lands; Bureau of Indian Affairs budgets and policies; education; and infrastructure, including broadband access in rural areas. The staff listened carefully, took notes, and gave some ideas about how these issues might be handled. They will forward these concerns to Secretary Castro. Fallon was the last stop on a four-day, 11 community tour. The other communities visited were Lovelock, Winnemucca, Elko, Ely Shoshone Reservation, Pioche, Pahrump, Tonopah, Yerington, Minden, and Stagecoach. In Pahrump, they received an endorsement from Carol Little, former Nye County Democratic Chair. The staff  has enjoyed getting to meet and talk with rural Nevadans. They shared one story about having lunch in Elko when the chair of the Republican Party there came up to them and thanked them for coming to rural Nevada. This is the kind of cooperation that can help get our country back on track. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
