Captains Log - Growing Up

Captains Log - Growing Up

Well. It’s official. We’ve expanded.

As much as we needed a local, community paper in Fallon five years ago, the rural parts of the state – everything outside of Washoe and Clark, also need a local, community newspaper. So we started one.

www.SilverStateChronicle.com

Check it out and let us know what you think. It’s just online for now, but if there’s enough interest and financial support, we’ll print this one too.

The idea is to bring the rural parts of the state together in one big community and make sure our leaders at the state and federal levels of government know who we really are. We don’t think the rural areas are getting a good feel for what goes on at the state level and we don’t think the state folks have a super good idea of what’s going on out in our communities.

We do realize there are other papers doing statewide news – and we have a lot of respect for the work they do and support their efforts. No amount of information getting out into the world is too much.

Our paper is different though because it’s written in the rural communities, by those of us who are out here. We want it to be about us, and we want to use it to strengthen us.

We hope you’ll keep your ear to the ground and let us know when there are important things we need to be covering. We hope you’ll write in with your letters, and we hope you’ll try your hand at a story if you’re so inclined.

So while we work on widening our footprint, we’ll still always be right here, dedicated to Fallon and our first little baby…

…Keeping you Posted.

Rach

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
