Oasis Academy Boys Basketball team completed their season with their final three contests this week.

Wednesday, February 7, Oasis played North Tahoe at home. North Tahoe came out with strong inside play and aggressive offensive rebounding to jump to a 14 to 9 first quarter lead. This continued into the second quarter, with Oasis trailing 30 to 17. Oasis came out the second half, changing their defensive strategy, and outscored the Lakers in the second half, 20 to 17, but losing the contest 47 to 37. North Tahoe is a big team, and they were beating the Bighorns to every missed shot and loose ball. The boys got more aggressive on both ends of the floor, which turned the second half around. While the team could not put the two halves together, “I am proud of the way they responded,” Schank said.

Player Stats:
Matthew Bird: 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal
Kayden White: 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal
Hunter Adams: 6 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals
Austin Booker: 6 points, 1 block, 1 steal
Trevor Barrenchea: 4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals
Benton Snow: 3 points

Friday, Oasis hosted Pershing County for its final home game of the season. It was also the night to recognize our graduating senior, Jason Neumann. Pershing County came out shooting, making six 3-point shots in the first two quarters and only hitting 2 field goals during the same time. They were moving the ball faster than our defense could react to and getting open looks at the basket. The second half was just a continuation of the 3-point bombs converting another five. Oasis shot the ball better in the second half but could never overcome the deficit from the first half, losing the contest 53 to 41.

Player Stats:
Matthew Bird: 20 points
Trevor Barrenchea: 9 points
Hunter Adams: 5 points
Benton Snow: 4 points
Kayden White: 2 points

Saturday, Oasis played its final game of the season, traveling to Carson City to play Sierra Lutheran. Oasis came out with cold shooting, trailing at the end of the first quarter, 5 to 12. Oasis turned that around with more aggressive defense, holding the Falcons scoreless and taking the lead at the end of the half 14 to 12. Oasis started the game out flat. Nothing was falling, and the defense was not in sync, allowing second shots and letting the other teams shooters get good looks. In the second half, the Bighorns continued the strong defense, holding the Falcons to one 3 and 2 field goals for the entire second half and winning the contest 34 to 24. “I was happy the team could end the season with a tough win on the road,” said Schank.

Player Stats:
Matthew Bird: 10 points
Austin Booker: 9 points
Kayden White: 8 points
Hunter Adams: 5 points
Trevor Barrenchea: 2 points.

Oasis ended the season 6 - 12 in league and 10 - 16 overall. “I always have high expectations at the beginning of the season. Our goal was to get to the playoffs in our first year competing in the 2A division. Unfortunately, we came up a little short. I know the boys were disappointed, as was the coaching staff, but we are still one of the youngest teams in the league, and I have high hopes for them next season,” said Schank.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
