It was a great opportunity for the team to play against the larger schools’ junior varsity programs. Illness plagued the Oasis team. They played the first game with only seven players. By the fourth and last game, 11 players were taking the court.

The first game, versus the Carson City Senators, was won 39 to 33. The Bighorns started the game having difficulty storing and turning the ball over. At half-time, they trailed 17 to 20. The second half saw them opening up and outscoring Carson with fewer turnovers.

First Game - Player Stats:
Matthew Bird: 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals
Fenn Mackedon: 10 points, 17 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks, 4 steals
Benton Snow: 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block, 2 steals
Eli Jones: 6 points, 1 rebound, 2 stealsKayden White: 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals

The following day, the Bighorns lost 21 to 54 to the Douglas Tigers. Douglas has a very athletic team that put tremendous pressure on Oasis, as do many of the top teams in their league. The Bighorns struggled with scoring and stopping the Tigers’ transition offense, shooting only 25% and turning the ball over 26 times.

Second Game - Player Stats:
Fenn Mackedon: 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks, 1 steal
Matthew Bird: 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals
Logan Casey: 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal

On the third day of the classic, Oasis squeaked a 43 to 42 win over the Reed Raiders in a great game. They started slow, only scoring two points in the first quarter. They learned patience and kept their poise to come back from a 15-point deficit in the second quarter. They used their pressure defense to take the lead for the first time with under one minute left in the game, 41-40, and held on to get the victory.

Third Game - Player Stats:
Fenn Mackedon:  15 points, 14 rebounds, 8 blocks, 4 steals, 1 assist
Matthew Bird:  14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals
Austin Booker: 10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal
Eli Jones: 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal

The Bighorns' final game of the tournament came the next day when they played the McQueen Lancers to a 43-60 loss. McQueen is a big team with good shooters. Rebounding was a huge problem for Oasis to overcome as they allowed the Lancers 17 second shots, giving up 15 points. The Bighorns turned the ball over 22 times, giving up another 10 points.

Coach Schank said, “This game exposed our need to be disciplined in the fundamentals of rebounding and taking care of the basketball.”

Fourth Game - Player Stats:
Fenn Mackedon: 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 5 steals
Matthew Bird: 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals
Eli Jones: 6 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 steal
Kayden White: 6 points,
Logan Casey: 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
Austin Booker: 1 pt, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

Coach Schank said, “Playing four games over the Christmas break was great for us. These games gave us additional experience playing bigger, stronger, and more athletic teams that we need in preparation for our league play the rest of the season.”

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
