The Lahontan and Stillwater Conservation District announced the winners of their "One Water" poster contest. The creative competition engaged students from Oasis, Churchill County High School, and the Churchill County School District - Title VI Program.

This annual contest is organized by the National Association of Conservation Districts and NACD Auxiliary, who invited students from kindergarten through 12th grade to showcase their artwork in support of national conservation efforts.

The contest theme, “One Water,” invites participants to examine watersheds – an area of land that channels rainfall and snowmelt to creeks, streams, and rivers, eventually leading to outflow points such as reservoirs, bays, and the ocean. Thus, those bodies of water are connected, so every drop that falls becomes part of “One Water.”

  • This year’s winners are:
1st place in the 10-12 grade category, Elayne Ernst, from Churchill County High School winning $100. Elayne also earned 2nd place in the same category in the state competition, winning $30.
  • 2nd place in the 10-12 grade category, Nateya Wiggins, from Churchill County High School winning $50.
  • 1st place in the 7-9 grade category, Haley Bowman (Flick), from Oasis Academy, winning $100.00.
  • 1st place in the 2-3 grade category, Zane Conway from Churchill County School District – Title VI Program, winning $100.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
