Churchill County School District Superintendent Derild Parsons released information late Thursday, September 14, regarding the tragic loss of district bus driver Linda Diaz.

According to Parsons, on Sunday afternoon, the district was informed that they had lost bus driver Linda Diaz in a motorcycle accident. Once they verified the notification of next of kin, the school district used StopFinder to inform the families on Linda’s route of this loss to allow them to address this with their children before the bus ride on Monday morning. ChurchillCSD also communicated this loss to the staff, who were offered the services of school counselors and provided contacts for resources to assist students in dealing with this loss. No formal announcement or social media post was made out of respect for the family and to honor their privacy.

“We would like to offer our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who loved her. Linda was truly one of a kind. She had a big heart and loved nothing more than her husband, her kids, her grandkids, her friends, her coworkers at Transportation, and her students. Linda was more than just a driver for the kids who rode her bus to and from school every day,” wrote Parsons. “She was also a friend, a motherly figure, and most of all, a warm, sweet, caring woman with a big personality who greeted them each day - her students adored her. She will be sorely missed, for she truly made a difference in the lives of everyone who knew her.”

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 16, at 3 p.m. at 870 Soda Lake Road. Before the memorial, her son Tristen (who is a ChurchillCSD substitute bus driver) will drive her bus (#10) and run her route one final time. ChurchillCSD and Linda’s family invite the families on her route and anyone else who would like to pay their respects to the family to come out and wave to them as they pass by on bus 10.

The route and times for Linda’s Last Run can be found here, on the ChurchillCSD District and Transportation Facebook pages, or if your child rides bus #10, you will see a new route in your Stopfinder app named “Linda’s Last Run driven by her son Tristen Salazar” so you will be able to track the bus on its journey.

“Linda was larger than life and ChurchillCSD has worked closely with her family to make sure she is celebrated in a big way,” Parsons wrote. “Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.”

So sorry for this loss. School bus drivers are a special family. It's heartwarming to see the Churchill County School District to honor her. I am a former school bus driver for the Mount Diablo Unified School District on California. Thank you

It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking. I am Kelly’s sister, Charlene B Johnson and his daughter is Trisha Benjamin. The Fallon Tribal Police acted unconscionably by not notifying the family first. This is devastating for us especially after speaking a little bit with the officer handling the report and The Chief Juarez. Who refused to give me any further details or to at least let me know the FBI was notified and that they were investigating if my brothers death was foul play or not. My understanding is the FBI is called when a body is found. Tribal Chairwoman please do the family a solid and make sure the finding of my brother was due to suspicious circumstances.Comment publication date: 3/24/26, 1:55 PMComment source: Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Reports Death Under InvestigationComment author: Nicole GalbraithComment text: Farren - I just saw that you aren’t here with us. I am completely in shock! I met you and hung out with you so many years ago with Jer, and Eden. I honestly can’t believe you are gone…..you were a wonderful human being, with a HUGE heart and soul. Hearing this makes my heart break! You are forever in our hearts, and I can say I feel blessed that I was able to know you!
