The Tenth Judicial District Court convened Tuesday, August 22 Judge Thomas Stockard presiding. 

Cecil Mark Riggs, in custody, appeared for sentencing on an E Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Riggs waived his 947 days served received probation on a suspended sentence of 24-48 months in a Nevada State Prison. In addition to standard conditions of probation, Riggs was ordered to obtain both a substance abuse evaluation and to follow the recommendations therein. Fees and assessments were imposed.

Amanda Sharon Nadeau, in custody, was removed from drug court. Judge Stockard found that Nadeau violated the conditions of probation for non-behavior-based reasons and modified her sentence to 255 days in the Churchill County Jail. Applying credit for time served, Nadeau will spend the next 90 days in custody. 

Refugio Alanis-Sanchez appeared for sentencing on the Category B Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Mid-Level and Possession of a Schedule 1 or II Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Sales, also a Category E Felony. Alanis-Sanchez pled guilty on both counts and was provisionally granted an opportunity to participate in a diversion program. Judge Stockard suspended proceedings and placed him on probation ordering Alanis-Sanchez follow the recommendations of his substance abuse evaluation, in addition to the standard probational requirements. Stockard also ordered him to pay $1,100 in restitution for a controlled purchase of methamphetamine allowed his continued participation in diversion court with a provision to add 12 months of supervision if needed “This is a substantial opportunity,” Stockard told Alanis-Sanchez, “I hope you take advantage of it.” Standard fees and assessments were imposed. 

Samuel Alexander Crowley appeared on two Category D Felonies: Grand Larceny of Personal Goods or Property with a value of $1,200 or more but less than $5,000 and Embezzlement with a value of $1,200 or more but less than $5,000. Each case carries a potential penalty of 1-4 years in Nevada State Prison and a fine of up to $5,000. The Criminal Complaint for the Grand Larceny alleged that Crowley took items from Ace Hardware, many of which were recovered. As for the embezzlement charge, it was alleged that Crowley took tools entrusted to him as part of his employment. He pled guilty to both counts. A Pre-Sentence Investigative Report was ordered with sentencing set for November 14. At the request of Public Defender Wright Noel, Crowley was provisionally admitted to Drug Court.
