Obituary - Craig Sturman

Obituary - Craig Sturman
Craig Sturman

Craig Steven Sturman died on December 27, 2022, unexpectedly due to complications with the flu.

Craig was welcomed a week late to this world on October 15, 1992, to his parents Robert Sturman and Denise Edgmon-Sturman who were both serving in their respective roles in the military. Craig came a week late, on his own time frame. His mom is sure it was to accommodate his dad’s hunting schedule.

At four days old, Craig was diagnosed with CAH7 which is the reason newborns are screened today at birth for this genetic disorder. He didn’t talk about it as always, because he was private, but he had been saving countless lives from the day he was born. He never thought of himself as a miracle or as sick, he just worked around it. He lived life in a big way.

Craig had a mind for all things. Just ask him anything, and he could tell you about it. He had a sarcastic wit that was as quick as his knife skills in the kitchen, he loved to cook. He was both loud and gregarious but could be a serious, straightforward, and sound advisor. He had a great mind. He was proud that he worked with his hands. You could always count on him having a wrench or guitar pick in his pocket. His mom washed more than she could count.

Craig would play his guitar in the late hours of the night to calm his troubles and he could sing. He was partial to the old crooners. He read everything he could get his hand on and had a mind full of random science, philosophy, astronomy, the supernatural, you name it, he knew it.

On the topic of the supernatural, what a beard. It was a wonder all its own. He had been growing it since he was in sixth grade, and he was proud of it!

He had dreams and he was achieving them. He finally got his dream job working with Top Gun. Ironically, he couldn’t think of many people who would give him a character reference for his security clearance, so it took a while to get it. Boy, if he could see the outpouring of love now. Of course, he was private about his job, he would say, “I just do data entry,” (so not true).

This small-town kid who came to Fallon at 2 1/2 years old made roots here. He had family, picked family, made amazing friends, and became the go-to guy for his customers at Louie’s. He single-handedly built the stage at Alienstock and “I got paid to do it,” he’d say. Something he was so proud of!

Everyone who knew him, there are so many who have great stories, love him, and now have a human size hole in their lives. We are so sorry for your loss. He was so loved and that is so comforting to us who are left behind, his mother Denise Edgmon-Strong (Jon Gilbaugh), his father Robert Sturman (Mary Sturman), brother Logan Strong, grandparents Jerry and Georgia Edgmon, stepfather Nathan Strong "Hippie," Uncle Craig Edgmon (Setsuko), and his stepbrothers Michael and Scott.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother Florence Edgmon, great-grandfather and great-grandmother George and Velma Beaver, grandmother Alicia Golouke, and uncle Jerry Don Edgmon.

A celebration of life will be planned for closer to this summer at The Twisted Branch to allow his numerous family and friends to come together and enjoy whiskey, craft beer, and music from his favorite band, the Will Shamberger Band, and to s**t talk about Craig just like he’d expect.
