County Manager Jim Barbee reported Thursday during the Churchill County Commission meeting, positive COVID cases are increasing through the community. Hospitalizations are up, however, not as high as they were last year at this time, and the county is continuing to operate the vaccine, testing, infusing center at the facility on Miners Road.

According to the Nevada Health Response website where the state tracks local COVID data, on January 6, 2022, Churchill County currently has six hospitalizations, with two of those in Intensive Care and one on a ventilator. There are eight new daily confirmed cases over a 14-day moving average, with 43 current, active cases and a total of 4,544 positive cases since March 2020. There have been 92 deaths reported as a result of COVID.

There has been a solid response to the vaccine program, with 46.65% of the county population five years and older vaccinated. To reach that number, 26,572 total doses have been reported as administered, with 11,452 total vaccinations reported as completed.

Testing continues at the Miners Road facility, with a total of 49,091 cumulative tests having been given. The county is showing an 11.6% positivity rate, over a 14-day period with a 7-day lag.

Barbee did say the county is seeing a fair amount of activity in the infusion center, where residents are taking advantage of the monoclonal antibody treatment.

Only thing is, is that they are saying it's a 10 day isolation when the CDC has already changed it from 10 to 5 days.
