Violet Marie Brigham, age 70, of Fallon, NV entered eternal life on January 28th, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, NV. Violet was born in Schurz, NV to Robert Brigham and Laverne Hooper Brigham. Violet was raised in the Reese River Valley on the Yomba Shoshone Reservation by her grandparents, Duman and Lizzy Hooper.

Violet’s childhood playmates included her siblings, Charlotte Dodgen and Artie Brigham, and lifelong friend, Paula Brotherton Houston. Violet attended elementary school in Yomba, then moved on to attend high school in Austin, NV from 1965-1968. While in high school, Violet participated in basketball and volleyball. In 1968, Violet attended McDermitt High School. She did not finish her studies at that time but did persevere in receiving her high school diploma in 1990 through Gabbs High School. From 1990 to 1994, Violet studied Business Administration and Computer Application at Western Nevada Community College in Fallon, NV.

Violet was employed by the Yomba Shoshone Tribe, Walker River Paiute Tribe, Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, and Fallon Tribal Health Center, where she held various secretarial and financial positions. Violet also served as a sales rep for Tupperware, Pampered Chef, and Princess House Crystal. Violet’s most important jobs and the ones she took most seriously was being a cheerleader, a driver, and sponsor of her children, DeMar Brigham and Lolita Brigham, and their activities. Violet missed less than a handful of high school sporting events.

In 2000, Violet retired due to medical purposes. After retirement, Violet moved to Pocatello, ID to be near and help her children, Violet remained in Pocatello for two years, after which, she returned to Fallon, NV. Violet kept herself busy with beadwork, leatherwork, crocheting, basket weaving, and attending cultural classes and serving as a Shoshone Language Instructor through the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe.

Throughout her life, Violet served the Lord. Violet and Levi Hooper, who Violet married and later divorced, ministered through music at countless camp meetings and churches. Violet would sing and Levi played the guitar. Violet was musically talented; along with singing, she played the guitar, the accordion, and the piano. Wherever Violet lived, Violet attended church. In Fallon, she attended the Pentecostal Church located on the Fallon Colony. There Violet was a piano player and Youth Sunday School Teacher. While Violet cultivated many friends throughout her travels, Rosiland McCloud and Anita Barr were two friendships Violet cherished as they shared her love for life and laughter.

Violet was preceded in death by her son, DeMar Brigham, brothers, Russell Brigham, Sr. and Art Brigham, sisters, LaVella Lockwood, Charlotte Dodgen, parents, Robert Brigham and Laverne Hooper Brigham, grandparents, Duman Hooper, Lizzy Hooper, Donique Brigham, and Mary Ike Brigham. Violet will be remembered by her daughter, Lolita (Darrell) Brigham, sisters, Ann (Kenneth) Dela Vega and Mary (Wade) Hard, Deanna Testerman, Shawna Morgan, Sharon Muldoon, and Shirley Jackson, and brother, Bobby Brigham, grandchildren, Dylan (Brittany) Brigham, Brianna Brigham, Aubree Brigham, Brenna Brigham, Samuel Brigham, Joseph Sheepskin, Jonah Sheepskin, Matthias Sheepskin, and one great-grandson, Jerimiah “Yazhi” House, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4th from 6-8 pm at Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, at 9:30 am also at the funeral home.  Burial will follow services at the Churchill Public Cemetery.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all.
