Obituary - Betty Jean Fudge
Betty Fudge

Betty Jean Fudge passed away on December 19, 2020, at Banner Hospital. She was born March 10, 1925, in Hawes, Nevada to Nels and Irene Friberg. Her father was a section foreman for the Southern Pacific Railroad which was located off Highway 50 between Lahontan Dam and Silver springs.

The family moved to Flanigan, Nevada near Pyramid Lake where Betty and her two brothers, John and Augie Friberg, attended a one-room schoolhouse and had the same teacher for eight years. They later moved to Fallon where she graduated from Churchill County High School.

Betty met her husband, Louis “Jeff” Fudge when she and her friend needed a military escort to a high school event. Dressed in his full naval attire, Jeff heard of their dilemma and offered to escort them inside. Afterward, they started dating and married three months later. The marriage lasted 68 years until Jeff died in 2012.

Betty was a dedicated wife and homemaker, volunteering at the local Senior Center and involved with Little League where she served as President of Fallon Youth Baseball at one time. Both Jeff and Betty were avid bowlers and were inducted into the Fallon Bowling Hall of Fame for 50 plus years of bowling. She continued bowling into her 90s.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jeff, brothers John and Augie Friberg, and grandson Steven Beach.

She is survived by daughters, Lonne Sheldon, Janelle Buhlig, Vicki (David) Paul, and son, Alan, four grandsons, Shad (Shelly) Buhlig, Marc (Tami), Mike (Lauren), Paul, and Mathew Fudge, and six great-grandchildren, Tim, Christopher, Kylie, Colbi, Kennedi, and Johnny.

Graveside services will be held Monday, January 4, 2021, at the Churchill County Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by The Gardens Funeral home.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
