Obituary - Elvina May Dietz Sanches
Elvina May Dietz Sanches

Elvina May Dietz Sanches, age 90, passed away November 17, 2020 at Highland Manor in Fallon, Nevada.  Elvina was born May 26, 1930 in Tucson, Arizona to Charles E. Dietz and Elvina May Marshall Dietz.

She enjoyed her childhood living in Tucson attending Safford Elementary and graduating from Tuscon Senior High in 1947.  Elvina and her sister, Emmajean Dietz Wells enjoyed attending the USO dances for the troops from Davis-Monthan AFB & Mariana Air Base.  This is where Elvina met her husband Sgt Albert M. Sanches and they were married on Dec 17, !948 in Tucson. She worked at The Tucson High school book store while Al was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB.  They started a family in Tuscon welcoming three sons from 1949 to 1957 when Al received orders to transfer to Torrejon AFB in Madrid Spain. Elvina, Al and the whole family travel by car from Tucson to New York City to depart for Spain with the youngest son being only 6 weeks old.  They had many adventures there for two years and then Al transferred to a radar squadron on the Island of Mallorca until 1961.  Next duty station was NAAS Fallon Nevada.  In 1962 they welcomed a daughter to the family in Fallon.

Elvina and Al took on civilian life in 1964 with the acquisition of the Wilshire Oil gas station then later two Gulf gas stations.  At one time they had four gas stations to operate.  Mom was the bookkeeper for all four gas stations along with being a wife, mom, bookkeeper, cook and referee.  She was also a bookkeeper at Palludans hardware store on Maine Street in Fallon and Tarp's western wear. After selling their last business in 1979 they moved to Carson City where mom worked for Gopher Products and Dad worked at the prison.  In 1991 they both retired and moved to Silver Springs where they stayed busy remodeling the house, playing golf and did a road trip to Alaska. Mom enjoyed gardening, growing flowers was her favorite, crocheting, golfing, bowling and crafting.  Dad passed away from cancer in 2013 and mom stayed on and took care of her 5 acres of the “Apple and Toad Ranch” until August 2019 when her health started to decline and it was too much to take care of even with the help of her family.  She sold her home and took up residence at Highland Manor Assisted Living.  Her health declined and finally succumbed to the Covid on November 17, 2020.

Her father preceded her in death in 1958, her older brother Charles Roy Corder in 1961,her older sister Helen Corder in 1977,  her mother in 1982, her sister Emmajean Dietz Wells in 2003 and her husband Al in 2013.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
