Members of the Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary have been hard at work this past month despite the COVID-19 situation. We had almost 1000 hours of service in April supporting blood drives, newborn babies, masks for our hospital staff and scholarships for our community students in or headed for college in medical related fields.

The Auxiliary gave several scholarships to local students last month totaling $11,100. The recipients were very grateful with comments like "Awesome”, “Thank you so much" and "I'm so grateful." One even said she felt like crying she was so happy. Four scholarships were given to college students and three Mae Haden Scholarships were given to graduating High School students. One additional high school scholarship of $1,100 from Auxiliary volunteer donations was also given to a graduating high school student. Our scholarship program is supported from the net profits of the Stuf ‘n Such Thrift Store and the Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop, generous donations and “round-up” sales from our customers.

We have finished our “Mask Project” having made and donated over 700 face masks to the hospital. Great job to all who participated in one way or the other. Our crocheting volunteers are still hard at work making hats and booties because babies just keep on being born.

The BCCH Auxiliary’s thrift store, Stuf N’ Such, continued serving the community even while closed by donating items to the mask project and putting out their Easter stock for free to help local families who suddenly found themselves with reduced finances. They re-opened on May 19 to an overwhelming response from the community. People can continue to help with our scholarships by making donations directly to our scholarship fund and getting extra stamps on their Frequent Shopper cards for doing so.

The Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop in the hospital lobby will also be re-opening soon. See’s Candy is still available and lots more.

The Auxiliary was founded in 1957 and consists of an all-volunteer membership. It depends on people who want to help others and have the time to volunteer to support our mission. Volunteers are needed in the hospital at various locations, the Rainbow Treasures gift shop and to work on other special projects. The Stuf n' Such thrift store especially needs cashiers and workers to sort and process donations.

Please, if you have the time, a desire to help and serve your community, pick up an application to join at the Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop in the hospital (Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or at the Stuf n' Such Thrift Store located at 99 S. Nevada Street in Fallon (Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

C Comment author: Carl C. HagenComment text: What are MFNs and PBMs ?? ............................ From the editor: This is a very good question and we apologize for not catching that wasn't in there. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITORComment author: Debra J RidenourComment text: So sorry for your loss.
