Letter to the Editor -- Michael Trainor

I have been to the dentist, dog groomer, dry cleaner, bike shop, Home Depot, grocery store, nursery, and local trail system during the Nevada stay at home order. One of the constants across these businesses is both people and businesses have taken responsibility for their own protection.

Nobody wants to see the deaths that have been predicted in many models, let alone experience loss first hand, but the primary question is where we draw the line between government protections and individual freedoms. If we place our lives and livelihoods in the hands of the government we must accept our freedom is theirs as well. This includes believing that government knows how best to protect us and will act in our best interests. We must also have the confidence in our government regardless of which party in at the reigns.

If the American people accept responsibility we also accept the risks that go along with it. Freedom is not without risk. This includes not being in control of others or how they conduct themselves or their businesses. It does not mean there are no controls in place to slow the spread of COVID.

I have faith in the American people and ingenuity of businesses to survive and thrive. I will do my part to protect myself and family, support local businesses, pray for those in distress, and enjoy benefits and risks that come with exercising my constitutional rights. Please take a moment to appreciate all those who have fought for our liberties as well as the workers who are fighting to protect our health.

So true-I am 65 and have no underlying health conditions so I have gone to the grocery store, hardware store, etc with no fear. Good common sense is in order here and as some folks say "that doesn't grow in everyone's garden"

C Comment author: Carl C. HagenComment text: What are MFNs and PBMs ?? ............................ From the editor: This is a very good question and we apologize for not catching that wasn't in there. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITORComment author: Debra J RidenourComment text: So sorry for your loss.
