Sheriff Statement - Fugitive Apprehended

Sheriff Statement - Fugitive Apprehended

Submitted by the Churchill County Sheriff —

A long-standing man hunt that has covered several states and been featured on Americas Most Wanted came to a conclusion today with the arrest of Wesley Austin Lattin at 4004 Tarzyn Road, the residence and property of Becky and Bruce Humphrey. Becky is the sister of Wesley.

The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Sparks Police Department SWAT team served a search and seizure warrant at that residence and arrested Wesley.   Wes Lattin has been on the run since August of 2005 when he failed to appear in what was then the Third Judicial District Court for trial for multiple charges of Sexual Assault on a Juvenile.

The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the Unites States Marshall late last week stating that Wes Lattin was living on the farm of Bruce and Becky Humphrey. The tip indicated that he was staying in an underground bunker near the main residence.  The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, and on the morning of February 21, 2020, personnel from the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office observed a male subject identified as Wes Lattin entering and exiting the residence and doing work on the property in close proximity to the house and shop.  The subject was armed with a long gun during these trips in and out of the house and while walking around the property.

Several bunkers were located on the property, at least one of them was very elaborate and appeared to be more than a temporary shelter as it was equipped with a large bed, wall coverings, cooking utensils, solar panels and was equipped to pipe in fresh air.

The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office is very pleased to be able to put this fugitive in jail and help bring this case closer to a conclusion for the victims and the public. The case is still ongoing.

One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
