In Memory of Sandra Weaver Johnson

In Memory of Sandra Weaver Johnson

Sandra Weaver Johnson, 79, of Reno, Nevada, passed away peacefully July 22, 2026, following a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.

Born June 6, 1947, in Fallon, Nevada, Sandra was the daughter of Hillis and Louise Weaver. Raised in Fallon, she developed a lifelong love for Nevada, its history, and the people who called it home. She later settled in Reno, where she raised her family and built a career dedicated to public service.

Sandra worked for the Washoe County Treasurer’s Office for 30 years, where she formed lasting friendships that continued well into retirement. She looked forward to the monthly birthday lunches she shared with her former colleagues, cherishing the laughter and lifelong connections they represented.

She was fiercely independent, practical, and always prepared. Family and friends knew they could count on Sandra for steady support and a helping hand whenever it was needed. She had a sharp wit, a dry sense of humor, and an ability to find both perspective and humor in life’s everyday moments.

Sandra found great joy in gardening and was a master gardener whose beautiful gardens reflected her dedication and appreciation for nature. She was an enthusiastic card player who enjoyed many memorable afternoons around the table with friends.

One of Sandra’s greatest joys was being a grandmother. She was deeply devoted to her two granddaughters, who called her “Gigi.” She took great pride in celebrating every milestone, achievement, birthday, and special occasion in their lives. No important date was ever forgotten, and her thoughtful cards, gifts, and words of encouragement reflected her support. When her granddaughters were away at college, Sandra delighted in sending care packages filled with homemade treats and thoughtful necessities. An exceptional baker, she was known for the desserts she prepared for holidays and family gatherings, creating traditions and memories.

A proud Nevadan, Sandra had a deep appreciation for the state’s history and traditions. As a member of the Nevada Historical Society, she enjoyed learning about the past, researching family history, and discovering the connections that tied generations together.

Sandra was also a devoted dog lover, with a special affection for Scottish Terriers. Over the years, her Scotties were cherished companions, and her beloved Scooter held a special place in her heart.

Sandra is survived by her daughters, Shelley Johnson (Mark) and Alison Netski (Dale); her beloved granddaughters, Ellie and Grace; and her brothers, Karl Weaver, David Weaver, and Walter Weaver. She also leaves behind many dear friends, family members, and colleagues.

A celebration of Sandra’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Nevada Historical Society.

The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
