Foreign Exchange Student Jumps in With Both Feet

Foreign Exchange Student Jumps in With Both Feet
by Rachel Dahl -- There is nothing quite as effective sometimes, as just jumping into the deep end of the pool. That seems to be the philosophy of Dea Vepkhvadze, an ASSE World Heritage Exchange Student who comes to Fallon this year for her senior year of high school from Tsnori, Georgia. Dea is an outgoing and interesting student who is fluent in four languages, and loves ‘80s rock ‘n’ roll. The day she arrived in Fallon, her host family took her to the Cantaloupe Festival where she decided to enter the photo contest in the Country Fair. “Fallon reminds me of my home, it is a rural area with agriculture businesses and I thought a lot of people would feel relatable to my photo.” She entered a photo she took in Georgia of her grandfather’s tractor and won first place – in her first week in the United States. “This is my exchange year and I want to make it amazing, why not start the first day?” she said. Dea has also volunteered at the Historic Downtown Fallon Theatre as part of her Senior Service Project and has written an article about the theatre for the next print edition of The Fallon Post that will come out this Friday, Nov. 8th. She is interested in tourism, law, and music, and she takes amazing photographs. The U.S. State Department is the sponsor of the FLEX program that Dea represents.     Never miss the local news -- read more on The Fallon Post home page. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
