Ramona was born in San Diego County, California, to Raymond and Edith Alden Beyer. At a young age, her family moved to Odessa, Texas, where she was raised and attended school. She later earned her GED.
On April 1, 1976, Ramona joined the United States Navy and attended Yeoman "A" School in Meridian, Mississippi. During her distinguished 20-year naval career, she served at the Pentagon with the Navy Internal Relations Activity and U.S. Navy Broadcasting Service; Naval Air Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; COMNAVBASE NROTC at Villanova University in Pennsylvania; VP-9 at Naval Air Station Moffett Field, California; and finally at the Strike Warfare Center (Top Gun) in Fallon, Nevada. She retired after 20 years of outstanding and faithful service to her country.
Ramona met her husband, Michael, in April 1984 at the Top Four Club at Naval Station Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were married on Michael's birthday, November 22, 1986. In 1988, both Ramona and Michael received orders transferring them to California, where they spent the next three years. In 1991, they made Fallon, Nevada, their home.
Following her military retirement, Ramona remained active in her community and in veterans' organizations. She was a dedicated member of American Legion Post 16, where she volunteered as bar manager, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1002 Auxiliary. She was also employed at both the Bonanza and Nugget Casinos.
Ramona was a devoted daughter who lovingly cared for her grandparents and, later, her parents. Family was always at the center of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael, of Fallon, Nevada; her daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law, Nick; and four grandchildren, Lilian, Kyle, Alison, and Ben, of Virginia. She was also a beloved stepmother to Laura, Tammy, Michelle (deceased), and J.R. (deceased), of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Ramona was a proud step-grandmother to Heaven, Seth, Chance, Hannah, and Zachary.
Those who knew Ramona knew she was a tough customer — in fact, she proudly wore a fishing hat that said exactly that. Beneath that tough exterior was a loyal, caring, and devoted woman who touched the lives of many.
God took you too soon, but we take comfort in knowing you are in a better place. You will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved you. I will think of you many times, day and night, for the rest of my life here on earth. You are my sweetheart, Ramona, and you are my Chief. Until we meet again.
With all my love,
Michael
Your Husband and Master Chief
