Report from City Council Meeting

Report from City Council Meeting
by Ginny Dugan --  At the Oct. 21 meeting of the City Council of the City of Fallon, council members introduced a proposed ordinance which would provide for the annexation of approximately 7.35 acres, located at 1044 South Allen Road and contiguous to the corporate limits of the city. The property is owned by Gallagher Safe Storage, LLC. A public hearing on the proposed ordinance, Bill No. 782, was set as an agenda item for the next City Council meeting to occur on Mon., Nov. 4, in the City Council Chambers (inside City Hall) at 55 W. Williams Ave., Fallon.  Mayor Kenneth Tedford stated that the public hearing “will be properly noticed and advertised.” Robert Erquiaga, the city’s Legal and Administrative Director, indicated that city officials and Cyndia Gallagher have been working on the annexation project for several weeks, and an annexation agreement between Gallagher Safe Storage, LLC, and the City of Fallon has been prepared. In other business, the City Council approved a professional services contract with Atkins North America, Inc., for engineering design and bidding services for the rehabilitation of airport pavements at the Fallon Municipal Airport, located on Rio Vista Dr. The impacted areas are runway 3-21, taxiways A, F, M, N, and P, the main apron, and the north apron. The rehabilitation of airport pavements includes crack sealing, pavement sealing and striping, and the relocation of taxiway G. Additional work involves replacing four pavement panels that have buckled on taxiway A due to weather. The cost cannot exceed $63,070.00, of which the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FFA’s) share would be 93.75 percent or $59,128.00 and the city’s share would be 6.25 percent or $3,942.00. Atkins’ completion of the engineering design and bidding services is necessary before the project can be submitted to the FFA for its approval. If approved by the FFA, the City of Fallon would bid the actual construction work. The project would then be brought back to the Fallon City Council for its deliberation on the contract with the awarded bidder. “Today’s action (of the City Council) just gets us ‘bid ready’,” Erquiaga said. According to Erquiaga, Atkins “has done years of work on airport projects for the city.” The projected improvements will allow the Fallon Municipal Airport “to be in full compliance” with the FAA, he added. Councilwoman Kelly Frost thanked Mayor Tedford and his staff for being proactive with regard to the airport upgrades. Finally, the Fallon City Council approved the election of officers of the Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department, and Mayor Tedford administered the oath of office to the individuals: Fire Chief Jared Dooley, First Assistant Fire Chief Randy Sharp, Second Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Rogne, and Third Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Myers. Mayor Tedford thanked the officers and other members of the Fallon/Churchill Volunteers Fire Department, and their families, for their service and sacrifice each and every day to the City of Fallon and its citizens. The Fallon City Council meets every first and third Mondays of the month at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chambers (inside City Hall), 55 W. Williams Ave., Fallon.
