TCID and BOR enter contract negotiations
Truckee-Carson Irrigation District and the United States Bureau of Reclamation begin contract negotiations for Newlands Project Operations and Maintenance The Truckee-Carson Irrigation District (District) and the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) will enter into contract negotiations October 2, 2019 for the transfer of operation, maintenance, and replacement activities in the Newlands Federal Reclamation Project, Nevada – located in western Nevada. The District, formed in 1918, has operated the Newlands Project under contract with Reclamation since 1926.  The Project includes approximately 57,000 irrigated acres of lands in the vicinity of Fernley and Fallon.  Important Project water delivery features are located in both the Carson River and Truckee River basins, including Derby Diversion Dam, Truckee Canal, Lahontan Dam, Carson River Diversion Dam, Lahontan Power Plant, and hundreds of miles of delivery canals, laterals, drains, and diversion structures. Consideration of a new contract will first be made by the District’s Contract Negotiation Committee, consisting of board members and the general manager.  Negotiation sessions are scheduled for both October 2nd and 3rd, at the Fallon Convention Center, 100 Campus Way, Fallon NV in the Rawhide Wonder Room commencing at 9:00 a.m. As a result of the negotiations, the Committee will present its findings and recommendations to the board of directors for later approval.  Final authority to enter into a proposed contract must then be voted upon at a special election, district election, or primary or general state election by registered electors of the District. The current contract, bearing a term of 25 years, was executed in 1996 and will expire on December 31, 2021. For additional information, please contact the District Office at 775-423-2141.       Support local, independent news – contribute to The Fallon Post, your non-profit (501c3) online news source for all things Fallon. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
