Cross Country Runners Earn Spots at State Championship

Long-distance runners from Fallon concluded their season with impressive showings at the NIAA State Cross Country Championships. The event took place on November 8 at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno, where runners enjoyed favorable conditions with temperatures in the mid-60s and mostly sunny skies. Participants from the 2A and 3A divisions faced the challenging state course.

Churchill County High School celebrated the qualification of three girls and one boy for the Class 3A state meet. Junior Cassandra Hooper led the Greenwave, finishing 24th in the girls’ 5K with a time of 23:44. Fellow junior Tommie Fitzer secured 30th place, crossing the finish line at 24:21. Freshman Aubrey Strickland, making her debut appearance at the state level, achieved a 41st-place finish with a time of 26:00.

In the boys’ 3A race, Churchill County High School junior Jackson Barbee delivered a strong performance, placing 37th with a notable time of 19:17 in the 5K event.

Junior Leonidas Arcoraci represented Oasis Academy in the Class 2A boys’ state race. Arcoraci completed the course in 23:44, earning 36th place. His participation signaled a significant achievement for the Bighorns’ emerging cross-country program.

With athletes from both Churchill County High School and Oasis Academy competing at the state level, the championships highlighted the ongoing progress in local distance running. As teams look ahead, this meet serves as a benchmark for continued growth and sets the stage for the 2026 season.
