Obituary - Donald Ray Harmon

Donald Ray Harmon, born March 13, 1935, in Fallon, Nevada, passed away at home on Nov. 6, 2025, at 90 years of age.

Don attended Churchill County Schools. During his junior year, he joined the Civil Air Patrol Cadets, a civilian arm of the United States Air Force. He rose quickly to the rank of Cadet Captain. This program fueled his lifelong passion for aviation, and throughout his life he partnered and flew multiple airplanes.

Don was a lifelong member of the Lions Club since 1976, where he held many board positions over the years.

Don began his career with Dodge Construction for 10 years, then was offered a position with TCID as a diesel mechanic, maintaining Fallon’s diesel generator and hydroelectric plants. After TCID was purchased by Sierra Pacific Power Company, he transferred to the traveling diesel maintenance crew, servicing hydro and diesel power plants throughout the region. Don retired from Sierra Pacific Power Company as Power Maintenance Superintendent at the Valmy Power Station. He continued to reside in Fallon, Nevada.

Don is survived and dearly missed by his wife of 66 years, Karen Kirn Harmon, and his sons Michael (Melissa), Brian (Jennifer), and Kenny. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Eva, the wife of his late son Steven.

He is further survived by 11 grandchildren: Melanie, Taylor, Zachary, Shayne, Amber, Michael, Ashley, Jared, Elizabeth, and Rance; 7 great-grandchildren: Reese, Ayden, Reagan, Elijah, Emily and Jake; and 1 great-great-grandson, Carter Steven Ingalls.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Scott Harmon and Cora Harrigan Harmon Sanford; his sister Deanna; his son Steven Lynn Harmon; his grandson Ethan; and his faithful and beloved dog Bart.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fallon Lions Camp Dat So La Lee or KidSight First program, or to a favorite charity of your choice.

Memorial services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, at 1 p.m., with graveside services to follow.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
