Churchill County volleyball teams turned Thursday night into a victory on and off the court, sweeping their matches against the Dayton Dust Devils while honoring one of their own during “LeAnne Strong” night.

The evening doubled as a fundraiser for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation and a show of support for junior varsity player LeAnne Wallace, whose battle with childhood cancer inspired the theme.

The freshman team opened the night with a hard-fought three-set match. After dropping the first set 17-25, the Greenwave surged back to take the second 25-13. The deciding set was a back-and-forth battle, with Dayton edging out a 15-12 win to claim the match.

The JV squad, featuring Wallace on the roster, kept the energy high. Churchill jumped out with a 25-16 win in the opening set before Dayton answered in a marathon second, 30-28. The Wave regrouped and dominated the tiebreaker 15-7 to secure the match.

Varsity closed the night in style, sweeping the Dust Devils in straight sets. Churchill controlled the pace with scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22.

While the scores told one story, the larger purpose of the evening—raising awareness of childhood cancer and rallying behind Wallace—left an even bigger impact on players, families and fans filling the gym.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
