50th Anniversary of the Fallon Lions Jr. Rodeo

50th Anniversary of the Fallon Lions Jr. Rodeo
by Susan Weikel --  Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Fallon Lions Junior Rodeo this year will draw nearly 200 contestants this year. The event will again offer the community and youth the opportunity to join in a weekend of fun events from August 30th through September 2nd. This year’s rodeo committee  --  Travis Peek- President, Jennifur Peek- Secretary, Teresa Hiibel, Shawn Crystal, Victoria Crystal, and Christy Wilpfang has worked hard to bring this event about this year. They have planned an exciting raffle during the rodeo with great prizes. They will also be doing a 50/50 raffle for the Gelineau family. The rodeo offers an opportunity for a wide range of participation. There are four age groups (0-5 years, 6-9 years, 10-13 years, and 14-18 years) for this rodeo with saddles and buckles for the winners. There will be a Goat Branding after the rodeo on Sunday. This is a fun event to participate in as well as watch. There are 3 ages groups (0-9, 10-13, and family). That includes adults. It is a three-man team event that is $5 a man. Participants can enter as many times as wanted. Buckles will be given to all 3 teammates for the 1st placed team of each age group. The rest of the money will be jack-potted. The rodeo has drawn families from all over the country. This year contestants will be traveling from as far away as Alaska and South Dakota to participate in the Fallon rodeo. Welcome to all the contestants and the very best of luck.

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses. Her dad Ted was my dad's brother. I never knew Ted or Betty, but I wish I did. I am 73 and live in IL. I am building my family tree and see where Betty has fit in. Blessings to you Curt and family.
