Captain’s Log – Appreciation

What would someone want to read about in this space on Thanksgiving morning? Today is Monday, and the paper is due to the printer at 2 p.m., a day earlier than our normal Tuesday at 2 p.m. deadline. The last thing in the world I’m thinking about right now is turkey and mashed potatoes.

Really, what I’m thinking about is how I forgot to send the instructions for the template for the paper to our new designer of the Fernley paper, and now he’s got to scramble a bit first thing this morning to get all that in order.

And how, if we do manage to get it printed tonight, will we get the Fernley paper out on Thursday morning since all the places selling it will be closed?

We’ve got a pretty good system over here. We are blessed with a plethora of volunteers and good staff who all thought this through last week. I’ll be doing the early morning Thursday deliveries to the stores here that are open that morning, and then the volunteers will finish our other stores on Friday morning when everyone opens back up.

And then it’s Shop Small on Saturday. I love Shop Small. Just the idea of everyone getting out and about and supporting our little local businesses makes me so happy. I love everyone supporting the Chamber and playing the Gurkha game, seeing everyone we know, the anticipation of Tree Lighting.

We have such a great little town.

Which leads me to the obligatory gratitude list. I really can’t just start making a list of all the people and things I’m grateful for in my life – it would go on and on, and we have absolutely no room in this paper for a jump this week.

Suffice it to say I have been so blessed this year. In so many ways.

But for our purposes here, so many amazing people have continued to help us with this paper, and as we creep up on what will be our sixth year, to quote from one of my favorite Christmas movies, “My joy is at its zenith.”

Never mind that as soon as Ralphie said that, the dogs stole the turkey in the most “unthinkable disaster,” and I haven’t heard from the printer yet that we will actually be able to print Fernley tonight.

But we are hopeful.

So, as we at The Post contemplate our many blessings and enjoy this special season, we’ll be right here…

…Keeping you Posted.

Rach.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
