Fallon's time-honored “Ceremony of Protocol” hosted by the Fallon City Council.

Fallon's time-honored “Ceremony of Protocol” hosted by the Fallon City Council.

Mayor Tedford and Councilwoman Karla Kent pledged their Service to the community on Friday, July 12th, at the time-honored “Ceremony of Protocol hosted by the Fallon City Council.

Mayor Ken Tedford was reelected during the June elections for the City of Fallon. Having served continuously as the mayor of Fallon since 1995, Tedford’s bid for office was unopposed. Tedford will continue to serve the community by presiding over the City Council, serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Fallon, and working toward his mission to be continually improving the quality of life for Fallon residents.

Karla Kent was elected to the City Council as Bob Erickson, former councilman, ended his term in office after eight years. Kent represents the Ward II district in the City and has been a prominent business figure in the community for many years.

While campaigning, Kent expressed a strong desire to help bring more commerce into the city and see the local business community thrive. Another area of interest for Kent is seeing the continuation of the Maine Street revitalization project. Now that she has been elected, she has her work cut out for her. “I look forward to learning and contributing,” stated Kent, “I want to see controlled growth in the city limits, but need to understand what I am able to do.”

Kent expressed her appreciation for those that have served before her, “I want to pay homage to the Council before me and the outstanding job they have done," stated Kent.

The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
