CCSD School Board Fills Principal Positions

CCSD School Board Fills Principal Positions

The Churchill County School Board of Trustees approved Superintendent Derild Parsons' recommendation and hired two new principals to fill vacancies at the Churchill County Middle School and E.C. Best, effective July 1, 2024.

Victor Schoenfeldt, who has served as the principal at Sierra Nevada Academy Charter School in Reno since 2005, will take the helm at CCMS. Brad Barton, a longtime Fallonite and a vice principal at CCMS, will move across town to lead E.C. Best, home to the district’s second and third graders.
Schoenfeldt spoke briefly during the special board meeting, saying he is very excited about this opportunity and is focused on student growth and academic performance. He earned his bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University and a master’s degree from Gonzaga University and began his teaching career in Arizona as a classroom teacher.

Parsons said, “In my meeting with Mr. Schoenfeldt, he presented an understanding of CCMS and provided a plan that included personal goals and timelines to facilitate his transition to principal at CCMS. He expressed his dedication to the staff and students and his desire to serve them as principal.I firmly believe he has the knowledge, abilities, and skills to be the next instructional leader at CCMS.”

Barton has worked for CCSD since 2004, when he began teaching English as a Second Language at the high school. Since 2017, he has been the Dean of Students and Vice-Principal at CCMS. He earned a degree in Sociology/Criminology from the University of Utah and a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Phoenix. He also has a second master’s degree in administration and leadership.

“Thanks to great examples from mentors Amy Word and Robbie Wickware, I was able to develop the skills to become an effective administrator,” Barton said. I’m eager to work with the E.C. Best staff and with this group of students. What an exciting age of curiosity and independence. I look forward to getting to know all the E.C. Best team and can’t wait to develop lifelong friendships with the students and their families.”

Parsons is confident that with Barton as principal, the staff and students will be supported and have opportunities to reach their potential. “Mr. Barton understands our strategic plan and is committed to providing leadership and support that will help us realize our vision for student achievement.”

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
