Nancy Gail (Barkley) Trease passed away suddenly in her home on December 4, 2023, at the age of 77.
Born January 10, 1946, in Fallon, NV, to Robert O. Barkley and Lillian E. (Swanberg) Barkley; she was the youngest of four children, the beloved baby sister. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Trease, her oldest sister, Carolyn Ann (Barkley) York, and her dear son, Brian Ted Trease. She is survived by her older brother, Stanley Owen (Judy) Barkley, sister Janice Lee (Lonnie) Moore, daughter Monica Frank, and grandchildren Kyle Trease, Dalton Frank, and Hannah (Zach) Jensen. And great-grandson Barrett Jensen, along with many nieces and nephews.
Nancy lived her first three years in Lovelock, where her father was a partner in a dairy and a grocery store manager. The family moved to Fallon when her parents purchased Weaver’s Market, across from the outdoor pool, renaming it Bob’s Market.
While attending the Churchill County school system, she was involved in the Jr High Glee Club, 4-H crochet club, and various sports. Nancy was athletic and excelled in swimming and tennis. She was fun and easy-going, which gained her many friends in school. She would often ride her horse, Mitzy, bare-back to the Oats Park Elementary School (now the Barkley Theater), leaving her in the corrals of Claude Mills across the street until the last bell rang. She could be seen entering the building with a sweat ring across her “back-side,” but this did not concern her in the least.
Nancy’s first job was in high school, where she worked for Palludan’s Laundromat on Maine Street. She also drove a school bus when she was just 16. My, how things have changed. After graduating from CCHS, she attended UNR for one semester, then returned to Fallon and went to work for the Churchill County Phone Company.
In the early sixties, a dapper young man, driving a little red sports car caught Nancy’s eye. They soon fell in love and were married in 1968. Bob and Nancy bought a small farm where they raised their two children. They enjoyed camping, fishing, cutting firewood, and spending time outdoors as a family. They kept chickens and always had an amazing garden. They shared a life together for over 54 years until Bob passed away in 2022.
Nancy retired from the phone company after 30 years, leaving with many fond memories and life-long friendships. She would then enjoy weekly get-togethers with several of her good friends to play pickleball. As the group grew older, they morphed into a coffee club as their bodies began rebelling against such strenuous activities.
Nancy was a humorous observer of the human condition and a fun person to be around. She was a gracious host, and one always felt welcome at her house. She never complained and was quick to forgive. She seemed to say, “That’s just the way it is,” and kept moving forward. She was a long-term caregiver to her mother, Lillian, and a short-term caregiver to her husband, Bob.
If Nancy was measured by her children and grandchildren, she would get an award for a job well done. She lived a full life, giving and receiving much love. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
