CCHS Graduation Friday, May 31st

CCHS Graduation Friday, May 31st
by Megan Behimer -- The number one item on the Fallon calendar for Friday, May 31st is the Churchill County High School graduation ceremony. The Class of 2019 will march proudly down the field to receive their diplomas, achievements will be honored, and a few important farewells will be made. This year CCHS produced 256 graduation-eligible seniors, almost all of whom will be graduating tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Edward Arciniega field. Among the graduates will be students who participated in the JumpStart program, and are receiving their High School diplomas a few weeks after officially graduating from Western Nevada College with Associates degrees. The CCHS students earned over 2.5 million dollars in scholarships, although not all of this will be cashed in, since some scholarships are college-specific. CCHS Coach Brandon Sanders will be the official guest speaker. The invocation will be given by Reverend Jerry Myers, and the benediction by Motulalo Otuafi. Fallon’s Naval Air Station will continue its tradition of doing a flyover following the National Anthem. Music teacher Tom Fleming, whose teaching career is coming to an end after thirty-six years, will be leading the Minor Details choir in a special performance of “A Million Dreams,” from The Greatest Showman. This touching end to a career that inspired countless students, and farewell to a teacher who has been fondly called “favorite” for decades, will certainly be one of the highlights of the night. Because a number of students participated in the dual enrollment program, CCHS will be sporting two Valedictorians - Stephanie Therianos, who will represent the CCHS Honors School, and Lauryn Mulac, representing the JumpStart students. Special recognition will be given to students for perfect attendance, participation in clubs, and extracurricular achievements, including Spanish Club to Student Government to JumpStart. A second goodbye will be said tonight, as an honorary diploma is presented to the family of Taylar Hutchings, a CCHS student who passed away four years ago, and would have been graduating with her class tonight. The Class of 2019 will introduce and present this diploma themselves. Whether we have a family member graduating or are simply excited to see the victories and achievements of the next generation, this is an important event - not just to the graduating seniors, but to Fallon as a whole. Seating is open to the public at 5:30. The seats on the field are reserved for the graduates’ guests, but the stands are open to everyone.     Sign up to receive updates and the Friday File email notices. They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
