Book Review -- The Mother-In-Law: A Novel by Sally Hepworth

Book Review -- The Mother-In-Law: A Novel by Sally Hepworth
Lucy, whose mother died when she was young, hoped for a close and loving relationship with her mother-in-law. What she got instead was a very complicated relationship with her aloof and rather cold mother-in law. Then her mother-in-law dies in an apparent suicide. Things start falling apart for the whole family when police begin investigating what they think is a murder. It turns out that everyone in this family has something to hide…except maybe Lucy’s children who are simply too young to have any secrets. As the reader learns more about each member of the family, the plot definitely thickens and we learn what happened to the mother-in-law and why. It was unexpected (to me anyway) and it wasn’t pretty. I don’t often read mysteries but this book was recommended by a friend so I decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did. I enjoyed the writing, the complex family relationships, and the ultimate resolution. Carol Lloyd is the Director of the Churchill County Library. She became a librarian for access to books and has discovered she doesn’t have time to read even a quarter of the books in which she is interested.

Who and what they REALLY were. Because they were devotional and IMPORTANT to the humans they connected with. The content of their life bled so that others could feel their own life’s importance. Teachers of justifiable life and art. That all can absorb and use as the best fertilizer for THEIR lives. Giving the silent secrets and the loud guidance. The Melon Man was a perfect specimen for how to devote. His passing meant a life book of feeling/knowing what gives other humans their paths to Love and Knowledge. Some humans are meant to show others their paths. And in that they secrete ways to profitably exist.Comment publication date: 3/18/26, 4:50 PMComment source: In memorium -- The Melon Man
