CCHS Back to School/Career Expo a Huge Success

CCHS Back to School/Career Expo a Huge Success

CCHS hosted its annual Back to School Night at the Rafter 3C Event Complex last week. However, this was different from your average Back to School event. Instead, it was more like a first-class school-to-career expo, including a high school course showcase and an extraordinary parent, student, and community gathering.

Businesses, colleges, and trade schools discussed career path options and post-high school job opportunities with students and parents, while CCHS teachers shared their plans and ideas for the upcoming school year. Students could gather information and talk to schools and businesses in a fun, engaging environment while enjoying time with their friends and classmates.

In attendance were the UNR Schools of Science and Social Work, Liberal Arts, New Millennium, Biotechnology and Natural Resources, College of Energy, School of Education, UNR Admissions and Undecided/Pre-Professional, and the School of Social Work.

CCHS Groups and Departments were in attendance also, showing what they are about and encouraging new and continuing student participation. The CCHS presenters included Art, Scholarships, Lego Robotics, Athletics, Counseling, Science, Cheerleading, Football, Student Council, CCHS Mentor Program, Game Design, FFA, the Academic Team, Fallon Swimming, CTE Programs Construction, and Welding, along with CCSD’s Department of Transportation.

Several board members and county commissions also attended, enjoying the spectacle of such a fun and essential gathering while visiting with students and the community. There is nothing like a positive, fun, high-energy event like this year’s Back to School/Career Night to kick off the 2023-2024 school year.

CCHS and Dr. Sue want to thank the many schools, agencies, and businesses that gave their time or helped sponsor the evening: Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Soroptimists Intl, Bighorn ATV, CC Communications, Wyoming Tech (advance auto technology training), Western Nevada College, Great Basis College, JOIN, Employ NV, Nevada Works, Churchill County Farm Bureau, the National Farmworker Jobs Program, Fallon Police Department, Nevada Gold Mines, Sierra Mountain Dental Assisting, Nevada Dairy Council, A&K Earthmovers, High Desert Grange, Lahontan Valley Cattlewomen, Fallon Glass, Churchill County 4-H, Central NV Health District, American Red Cross, Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, NAS Fallon Navy CYPSL, NAS Fallon Fleet and Family Services, Ormat, Jensen Constructions, Rice Lake Weighing Systems, US Air Force, Military One Source, Fallon Auto Mall, Churchill County Republican Women, and more.

Thanks to all the hard work of Dr. Sue Segura, her interns, CCHS teachers, staff, and students, the Rafter 3C Event Complex welcomed parents and the community to what turned out to be the largest back-to-school event Fallon has ever seen. Dozens of business owners and volunteers were on hand to ensure the evening went off without a hitch. The event was so successful that it will be hard to top in the years ahead.

It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking. I am Kelly’s sister, Charlene B Johnson and his daughter is Trisha Benjamin. The Fallon Tribal Police acted unconscionably by not notifying the family first. This is devastating for us especially after speaking a little bit with the officer handling the report and The Chief Juarez. Who refused to give me any further details or to at least let me know the FBI was notified and that they were investigating if my brothers death was foul play or not. My understanding is the FBI is called when a body is found. Tribal Chairwoman please do the family a solid and make sure the finding of my brother was due to suspicious circumstances.Comment publication date: 3/24/26, 1:55 PMComment source: Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Reports Death Under InvestigationComment author: Nicole GalbraithComment text: Farren - I just saw that you aren’t here with us. I am completely in shock! I met you and hung out with you so many years ago with Jer, and Eden. I honestly can’t believe you are gone…..you were a wonderful human being, with a HUGE heart and soul. Hearing this makes my heart break! You are forever in our hearts, and I can say I feel blessed that I was able to know you! Rest easy sweet Farren xoxoComment publication date: 3/23/26, 12:30 PMComment source: Obituary- Farren Crossland
