Sheriff’s Office Narrowly Wins Battle of the Badges

Author: Courtesy Shannon Perez

This year’s 5th Annual Battle of the Badges Blood drive was a huge success, with donors giving a total of 133 units of blood, 23 more than last year, and the most successful blood drive to date. In a neck-and-neck race, the Sheriff’s Office landed the win with 77 check-ins for donations against the Fallon Police Department’s 76.
The annual two-day blood donation rivalry between the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office and the Fallon Police Department ended in a big win for the community. According to Shannon Perez and Fallon’s Ladies Behind the Badge, who coordinated and volunteered for the event, 99 whole blood and 17 double donations were made. The combined donations will help save 399 lives.
“Thank you to this amazing community, to all of those that came out to support their favorite agency and who selflessly gave blood that will save lives,” wrote Perez, “Thank you to all the Ladies Behind the Badge that volunteered during the event and those that donated. Thank you to Sheriff Richard Hickox and Chief Ron Wenger, who supported this event from planning to execution.”

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses. Her dad Ted was my dad's brother. I never knew Ted or Betty, but I wish I did. I am 73 and live in IL. I am building my family tree and see where Betty has fit in. Blessings to you Curt and family.
