Obituary — Lois Ann Shade

Our condolences to her family...
Obituary — Lois Ann Shade

Author: In loving memory of Lois Ann Shade.

Our beautiful mother Lois Ann Shade left this temporary world on May 15, 2023, in Fallon, Nevada. She passed peacefully with her family by her side. She is now with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven for all eternity.

Lois was born October 27, 1932, in Mattoon, Illinois, and was the fourth child of five, all girls. Her parents, Edwin and Helen Matthius raised and baptized her in the Lutheran Church where she found her Christian Faith.

Mom married the love of her life Louis "Mike" Shade on November 6, 1953. They relocated to Tucson, Arizona where they raised two daughters. Lois worked as a secretary for VPs in the banking industry then took a job as office manager for a count who owned a castle in Germany. She was an accomplished pianist and solo vocalist who would sing at Christmas Eve services. We always wondered if she could shatter glass with her high notes.

After retiring, she her and dad followed their dream and moved to Mission Bay, San Diego where they lived for the next 16 years, right on the bay. They lived a carefree life on the beach and celebrated happy hour daily with numerous friends, solving all the problems of the world.

In 2010, they relocated to Fallon, Nevada to be closer to family and live the small-town life. Mom, known as Oma to family members, enjoyed the simple things in life, her flowers, hummingbirds, and especially her great-grandchildren who also adored her.

We never heard our mom complain about anything, you could ask her how she was doing on her worst day, and she would respond, “I'm perfect, I'm fine how are you doing?” Mom could make friends with anyone, always seeing the good in people. She was the family matriarch, setting our values and morals at a high standard and always leading by example. Mom will be deeply missed but live on in our hearts through countless memories.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis "Mike", sisters Mona, Mary, and Myra, and her nephew, Jeff. She is survived by sister Nancy Hively, daughters Mona (Scott) Timmons, Christina (Eric) Angell, grandchildren Mandy (Norman) Gilbert, Matthew (Tiffany) Timmons, Kyle Angell, Katie (Jerod) Andrew, great-grandchildren Aedre, Kailey, Bryce, Brylee, Clarity, Baby Timmons due in September and numerous nieces and nephews.

We also send a special thank you to all the staff and friends at Highland Manor that took extremely good care of her during her stay in assisted living. She loved you all and considered you her family.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church Memorial Garden in Tucson, Arizona. Instead of flowers please donate to an organization of your choice.

Aunt Lois was one of the kindest, warmest, most sincere persons I have ever had the honor to know. The world is truly better, as am I, for knowing her. She will be deeply missed!

I'm deeply sorry to hear this news of Lois's passing. I got to know her and Mike at Sunday services at Saint John Lutheran Church here in Fallon. She was a remarkable woman who could make anyone smile. She's back with Mike and heaven has a new angel.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
