Amelia Jean Crook Lance

Amelia Jean Crook Lance, born June 13, 1932, a long-time resident of Gilroy, CA, passed away on April 8, 2023, in Taylorsville, UT. Jean was born on June 13, 1932, in Ely, NV to Royal Don Crook and Wilmuth Witt Crook.

After graduating from Brigham Young University, she married Lynn Terry Lance in the Salt Lake Temple on June 12, 1953. Lynn was inducted into the US Army after the Korean War. While based at Fort Ord for basic training they became familiar with the Gilroy area. In 1956, the young couple moved to Gilroy with their two young boys to begin a 65-year residence in that wonderful community that they supported throughout their lives.

Jean taught piano lessons to many of Gilroy’s children as well as having a 20-year teaching career with Gilroy Unified School District in the music department. She also was an accompanist for 2 violin groups, was on the Gavilan Symphony Board, and on the Board of the Gilroy Retired Teachers Association.
Jean and Lynn were members of the Gilroy Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and helped build the chapel on the corner of Miller and First Street in 1957. She was the ward organist for 65 years and served in the Relief Society, Primary, and Mutual Organizations.

Lynn proceeded her in death in 2020. Also proceeding her in death was her sister Joyce Wadsworth.

Jean is survived by her beloved children Lane (Debra) Lance, Scott Lance, Laura (Matt) Pettit, Jonathan (Jan) Lance, Carol Wilson, Shawn (Sandi) Lance, and Sally (Jeff) Herbert. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by her cherished siblings Mary (Mel) Hill, Margaret (Jay) Hicken, Frederick (Elizabeth) Crook, Alice (John) Hicken, Nancy (Richard) Adams, and brother-in-law Brent Wadsworth.

There will be a viewing on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, at the Wild Mare Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6250 East 1200 South, Heber City, Utah. Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
