Library Celebrates Its Volunteers

Library Celebrates Its Volunteers
The volunteers and their volunteer dogs

Author: Jo Petteruti

Thursday, February 2 was an evening to celebrate those who have volunteered at the Churchill County Library within the past year, an event that included personal acknowledgments and a catered buffet.
Library Director Carol Lloyd opened the 6 p.m. reception, welcoming everyone by saying, “Those who can do, do, and those who can do more volunteer. That’s you people, and we thank you so much for what you bring. Last year, 1,089 volunteer hours contributed meant that the staff was able to perform other duties that directly impacted patrons such as library services, one-on-one technology training which Joe…does, additional programming, and outreach to the community. So, we greatly appreciate the help that you bring. Your contribution to the library and the community by extension makes us stronger, so thank you for that.”
The Library Board of Trustees was introduced. Lloyd said the board is tasked with setting library policy and fiscal accountability. The Churchill Library Association members were also introduced with Lloyd describing them as the fund-raising arm of the library providing additional financial support for extra programming, materials, and events, and the sponsor of the evening’s event.
The volunteers who were deservedly recognized are Rebecca Dugan, Lauralynn Sluyter and her dog Scout, Michelle Herzbrun, Karen Wilhelm, Becky Taylor, Bill Short, Magdalena Biar, Alex and Sari Koehler, Kage Oyler, Gene and Linda Bowman and their dogs Lacy and Abby, Thora Thibaut and her dog Zra, Allison Diegel, Melinda Clifton, Riley Davis, Hayden and Carly Diegel, Mayu Steinbaugh, Sharon Bischoff and her dog Kylo, Caitlyn Oyler, Terri Pearson, and Linda Werner.
Each volunteer received a specially baked, oversized cookie. The volunteer dogs, who participate in the Reading with Rover program received a treat too, a small bag of dog cookies just for them.
Maine Street Cafe catered the light buffet.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
